Our Story

Founded in 2003, Horses of Tir Na Nog began with a gentle quarter horse named Casper. This legacy of compassion has evolved into a dedicated sanctuary located east of Alpine, where volunteers work tirelessly to provide quality care for horses in need of loving, lifelong homes. In 2008, a pivotal partnership with the County of San Diego Department of Animal Services shifted the focus to rescuing horses from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Since then, not a single medically manageable equine has been euthanized.

Horses of Tir Na Nog creates a safe haven for horses with few options, ensuring they enjoy a better quality of life. By fostering connections between people and horses, the organization raises awareness about responsible horse ownership and care through educational initiatives in the San Diego community.
