Horseplay Therapeutic Riding Center

Our Story

Founded in 1995 by RuthAnn Davis in Vacaville, California, Horseplay Therapeutic Riding Center began as a personal journey of healing. After an auto accident and a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, RuthAnn discovered the transformative power of horse therapy. Inspired by her experience, she became a certified instructor with the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA), now known as PATH International. With just three horses and the support of local volunteers, she initiated therapeutic riding sessions for special needs children in her community.

Since RuthAnn's retirement in 2000, the center has flourished, thanks to the dedication of the Board of Directors and staff, along with generous community support. Today, Horseplay operates from the beautiful Whispering Winds Ranch & Sanctuary in Dixon, California, serving a tri-county area with five therapy horses and sessions three days a week. As an active member of PATH, Horseplay is proud to be part of a network of over 800 therapy centers worldwide, committed to enhancing the lives of individuals with special needs.

Impact

Horseplay Therapeutic Riding Center provides year-round recreational therapeutic horseback riding programs for special needs children and adults. Participants experience improvements in strength, balance, and self-esteem, benefiting those with conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, and brain injuries.
