Our Story

The Horse Shelter was founded by Jan Bandler, a passionate animal lover and horsewoman, who recognized the dire need for horse rescue in New Mexico. After attending a seminar on horse rescue in 1998, she was inspired to create a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing abused and neglected horses. Established in 2000, The Horse Shelter has become a sanctuary for these majestic animals, focusing on their rehabilitation and successful adoption.
