Our Story

Founded in 1976, Horry County Literacy Council has been dedicated to transforming lives through literacy. Initially focused on out-of-school teenagers and adults, the Council has evolved to meet the diverse needs of the community, including English as a Second Language programs and support for individuals with learning difficulties. With accreditation from ProLiteracy® in 2012, HCLC continues to innovate, launching the Read & Create program in 2014 to blend reading with artistic expression.
