Our Story
Hope Library, nestled in the heart of historic Hope Village in Scituate, Rhode Island, has a rich history that began in 1944. Originally located in the basement of a local church, the library flourished thanks to the dedication of Miss Alice M. Howland, the first president of the Hope Library Association. With her vision and the generosity of the community, the library moved to its current location, made possible by land donated for public use. The library was officially dedicated in September 1966, and has since expanded to meet the growing needs of the community, including a significant addition in 1989 and a new Children’s Room in 2003, designed to inspire young minds.
