Hope in Haiti

Our Story

The dream of Hope in Haiti began in 1987, ignited by Dick and Dixie Montgomery's desire to share the love of Christ with children in need. In 1989, they uprooted their family from Duvall, Washington, and moved to rural Dessalines, Haiti, where they dedicated their lives to working in an orphanage. During this transformative journey, they met Louinet Gilles, a young man who would go on to become a pastor and community leader, establishing a church and two primary schools that serve the poorest families in the region.

After two years of service, the Montgomery family returned to the U.S. due to the political turmoil in Haiti, but their commitment to the Haitian people never waned. In 2005, they returned to Dessalines, inspired by Louinet's unwavering dedication. Tragically, in 2006, Dick passed away, leaving Dixie and their 16 children to carry on the vision. In 2007, Dixie returned to Haiti with her children, launching a sponsorship program to support the schools led by Louinet.

Today, Hope in Haiti continues to weave a tapestry of love and support for the most vulnerable communities in Haiti. The mission is clear: to provide education, build infrastructure, and offer essential medical care, all while sharing the love of Christ.

Impact

Hope in Haiti focuses on the poorest of the poor in rural Haitian communities, delivering vital services that are often overlooked. The organization provides early childhood, elementary, and secondary education, builds churches and schools, constructs community wells and homes, and offers basic medical and dental care. Leadership training for pastors, teachers, and church leaders is also a key component of the mission, ensuring sustainable growth and support for the community.
