About Hope for Helm

Hope for Helm was founded as a grassroots charitable foundation to support Matt Helm and his family after a tragic ocean kayaking accident left him paralyzed. Born and raised in Downingtown, PA, Matt Helm is an exceptional individual whose courage inspired the creation of this nonprofit. In September 2014, just a month after welcoming his son, Matt suffered a life-altering injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Despite the grim prognosis, Matt's determination led him to pursue innovative, athletic-based rehabilitation methods.

Transforming Lives Through Adaptive Training

After two years of intensive training, Matt and his wife Lindsay returned to Downingtown to establish the Stand Strong Training Center. Here, Matt leads adaptive training sessions for individuals facing similar challenges, including those with spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, and stroke recovery. The center not only focuses on physical strength but also fosters confidence and a sense of community among its clients.

Making a Difference

Hope for Helm has raised over $36,000 to support its mission of helping adaptive individuals move forward. The organization provides scholarships for training and financial assistance to those affected by catastrophic injuries or medical diagnoses. The road to recovery can be long and costly, and every contribution helps ease this burden.
