Our Story
What began as one man’s mission to fill a void within the community has evolved into a vibrant, volunteer-run nonprofit organization. The Hood County Stampede hosts first-class events, including an annual family-friendly rough stock rodeo at the picturesque Reunion Grounds, overlooking Granbury, Texas. The inspiration for this initiative came when founder Wes Stevenson witnessed a local family facing emotional and financial hardships due to their child's severe illness. Recognizing the community's desire to help but the lack of a 501(c)3 nonprofit to facilitate donations, Wes took it upon himself to create a solution.
With a rich background as a PRCA bareback rider and a 9-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier, Wes, alongside his wife Francie and friend Jeffrey Ross, worked tirelessly to establish the Hood County Stampede as an official nonprofit. Their efforts, supported by local leaders and businesses, culminated in the inaugural event in just three months in 2017. Since then, the Hood County Stampede has become a cherished part of the community, hosting multiple events each year to raise funds for local children’s charities and scholarships while preserving the cowboy way of life.
