Our Story
For over 20 years, Homies Unidos has been a pioneer in promoting peace and reducing violence in predominantly immigrant communities across Los Angeles. Founded in 1998, this organization has empowered over 10,000 youth and adults through various programs, including lifestyle recovery, tattoo removal, and leadership development. By focusing on community-based approaches to public safety, Homies Unidos has successfully reduced violence in areas impacted by gangs and policing.
Homies Unidos aims to create a just and peaceful society that promotes human rights and equality, particularly for criminalized individuals within immigrant communities. In response to mass incarceration and deportation policies, the organization highlights issues of Crimmigration and advocates for justice against communities facing criminalization based on their immigration status.
Through culturally relevant programs, directly-impacted community leaders expose at-risk youth and formerly incarcerated individuals to educational and career development opportunities. These initiatives foster self-awareness, self-esteem, and leadership skills, enabling participants to become advocates for justice and peace in their neighborhoods.
