Our Story
Founded in 1997 by dedicated community advocates Luther Mook and Roland Hill, Homecrest Community Services (HCS) emerged from the urgent need to support the underserved Asian-American population in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Partnering with the Homecrest Presbyterian Church, HCS established its first Community and Senior Center, which has served as a vital resource for over 20 years, welcoming an average of 100 to 200 walk-ins daily. This center has become a cornerstone of the community, providing essential social, health, and resource services.
In 2004, HCS expanded its reach to Bensonhurst, opening a satellite older adult center to cater to the needs of Chinese immigrants. This initiative was crucial in delivering culturally competent programming and services closer to those who needed them. In 2013, HCS's Bensonhurst center achieved a significant milestone by receiving funding from the New York City Department for the Aging, becoming the first Asian American neighborhood older adult center in Brooklyn to do so.
