Our Story
HomeAhead began in 2018 when a compassionate community came together to support Rebecca, an elderly woman experiencing homelessness. After attending church services at St. Andrew Presbyterian in Boulder, Rebecca was about to receive housing but lacked the essentials to furnish her new apartment. Members of the church rallied together, donating furniture, kitchen items, and linens, transforming her new space into a home. This act of kindness inspired volunteers from St. Andrew, Congregation Har HaShem, and the wider community to form an informal group dedicated to collecting and distributing used home furnishings to those in need.
From 2019 to 2021, this grassroots effort furnished nearly 400 homes. Recognizing the growing demand, the team established HomeAhead as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit in late 2021. With the hiring of a part-time Executive Director in 2022 and an Operations Manager in 2023, HomeAhead has since furnished nearly 700 homes, providing a fresh start for individuals and families exiting homelessness, fleeing violence, aging out of foster care, and starting anew after incarceration.
