Empowering Women and Children in Haiti

Home Roots Foundation’s journey in Haiti began with a commitment to education, focusing on enhancing access for children in two schools. Support included providing school materials, paying tuition, and offering tutoring and English classes. As the nonprofit's presence grew, parents, primarily women, approached for assistance, expressing a desire for self-sufficiency and improved care for their children.

Recognizing the intertwined nature of children's well-being and their families' economic realities, Home Roots Foundation shifted its focus to empower women, who lead 45% of households in Haiti and face higher poverty levels. Many women, working as street vendors, lacked essential business training and access to financing. In response, the foundation implemented a comprehensive approach involving business training, financing, and ongoing coaching.

This evolution aligns efforts with the holistic well-being of the community, addressing the root causes of poverty and creating pathways toward lasting change. By empowering women to establish sustainable businesses, Home Roots Foundation fosters consistent income that elevates families out of poverty.
