Motivated by her humble beginnings, Mrs. Willa “Mother” Fletcher invested her retirement savings to create the Holt Street Project in 1991. Together with her son, Walter Gilbert, they restored an old building, now known as the Holt Street Miracle Center, to serve the less fortunate in the community.
The Holt Street Miracle Center has significantly reduced homelessness, suffering, and domestic violence in the Dayton area.
