Our Story
Holiday Helper originated in a back room at Fort Lee's Army Community Service in 2001, initiated by Ms. Karen McComas. Recognizing the pressing needs of military families during the holiday season, she took action to ensure that children would not go without. What began as a small initiative to assist a handful of families has blossomed into a vital program that supports over 1,200 military children each year.
As the program expanded, it became clear that a more permanent solution was necessary. The Garrison Command Team tirelessly searched for suitable locations on post, moving from vacant dining facilities to storage areas. In 2010, the Holiday Helper Association was established to meet the growing demands of this essential service, ensuring that military families receive the support they need during the holidays.
