Our Story

In the early 1970s, Edward F. McIntyre and William Matthews recognized the urgent need for a structured Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system in Hoboken. This vision led to the incorporation of the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps (HVAC) on February 26, 1971. Since responding to its first call during the Pier 5 fire on May 28, 1971, HVAC has evolved into the last all-volunteer ambulance service in Hudson County, NJ, answering over 5,000 calls annually.
