Our Story
The Historical Society of Vandalia Butler was founded in 1977, emerging from the Vandalia Bicentennial celebrations. In 1980, the society received a generous donation of a homestead and 8.5 acres from Mary C. Hoottinger, providing a home for the Log House, which holds historical significance dating back to the first deed recorded in 1825. For over thirty years, the society has dedicated itself to collecting, preserving, and displaying local treasures, making history accessible to everyone.
