Our Story

Founded in 1990, the Historic Virginia Land Conservancy was the first private non-profit land trust in Virginia, dedicated to utilizing the Virginia Conservation Easement Act. Originally named the Historic Rivers Land Conservancy, the organization evolved to reflect its expanding mission and was renamed in 2015. Governed by a Board of Directors comprised of community leaders, HVLC is committed to preserving the unique character of the Historic Triangle and surrounding areas.

Our Impact

With 14,700 acres permanently protected from development, HVLC ensures that the natural beauty and historical significance of Virginia are preserved for future generations.
