About the Historic House Trust of New York City

Founded on June 19, 1989, the Historic House Trust of New York City was established to protect and preserve the city’s rich architectural heritage. With the support of Mayor Edward I. Koch and NYC Parks Commissioner Henry J. Stern, the Trust began its mission to restore and maintain the 15 historic houses that were suffering from neglect and decay. Today, the Trust has expanded its collection to 23 historic sites across all five boroughs, transforming them into vibrant cultural institutions.

Impact on Communities

HHT has successfully revitalized these historic sites, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, including many local schoolchildren. These sites not only serve as museums but also as community hubs that foster cultural education and engagement.
