Our Story

The Historic Carter House Society Inc. is dedicated to preserving the Historic Carter House, a significant piece of southern history located in the heart of the region. This organization manages the Carter Plantation, which dates back to 1804, and aims to educate the public about its historical significance, particularly its connection to African-American history through the story of Thomas Freeman, the first black property owner in the area.
