The Story of Hillbilly Outfield
The Hillbilly Outfield began as a lighthearted idea during a St. Patrick’s Day party in 2000. Friends gathered on a back porch, joking about hosting a party where they wouldn’t have to buy the keg. The Kentucky Derby was chosen as the perfect occasion, and thus, the Hillbilly Outfield was born. With just six weeks to prepare, the original coalition came together to make it happen.
Over the years, the party grew from a backyard gathering into a nationally recognized charitable event. The first party raised only $100, but as the years progressed, so did the profits. By the fourth year, the event was able to grant a full wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, marking a significant milestone in its journey.
With the support of generous corporate donations and increased visibility from local press and national media, including ESPN and The Travel Channel, the Hillbilly Outfield has raised over $131,000. This funding has granted wishes for more than 25 children, bringing joy and hope to families facing difficult times.
