About Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center

Established in 1982, the Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center (HLFCC) was born from the urgent need to support survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Texas Hill Country. A dedicated group of community leaders recognized the rising requests for assistance and took action, leading to the creation of a safe haven for those in need.

In April 1983, the first emergency shelter opened its doors in Marble Falls, Texas, thanks to the generosity of the Crocket family and the Hurd family’s start-up capital. Originally named the Community Crisis Center, the organization evolved to better reflect its mission and the families it serves, becoming the Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center.

Over the years, HLFCC has expanded its services and facilities to meet the growing demand. In 2000, a new 9,700 square foot shelter was built, providing 37 beds and personal bathrooms for families seeking refuge. The previous shelter now operates as the Good Neighbor Thrift Shop, with proceeds directly supporting the families served by the Center.

HLFCC offers a wide range of services, including a Healthy Relationship Curriculum Program in local schools, a Sexual Assault Response Team Protocol, and enhanced bilingual services. The organization has become a beacon of hope for victims of domestic and sexual violence, providing safety, shelter, and advocacy.

Impact in the Community

In 2022 alone, HLFCC served 22,204 individuals, provided over 7,600 hours of advocacy and counseling, and offered more than 5,100 nights of shelter. The Center received 1,626 hotline calls, demonstrating its vital role in the community.
