Higher Ground Recovery Center, Inc. began as a substance abuse recovery ministry in 2005, rooted in the community of Praise Assembly of God Church in Springfield, Missouri. The founders, Michael and Lisa Rogers, recognized the need for comprehensive support for individuals and families grappling with substance use disorders. By expanding the ministry's programming to include faith-based clinical treatment and recovery support services, they aimed to create a more profound impact on the lives of those they served.

In 2006, the quality of services provided through the Higher Ground program earned Praise Assembly its first Access to Recovery (ATR) contract from the Missouri Department of Mental Health. This recognition marked the beginning of a journey towards establishing Higher Ground as a dedicated nonprofit organization. By 2013, Higher Ground Recovery Center was officially formed, continuing its mission to offer faith-based alternatives for treatment and recovery supports.
