Our Story

Herma's Readers is a nonprofit organization founded by the family of Frank Beamer, the esteemed football coach at Virginia Tech. This initiative honors his mother, Herma, a dedicated teacher for over 30 years. The organization focuses on promoting, encouraging, and supporting reading among students in kindergarten through third grade across elementary schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia. With the help of current and former Virginia Tech athletes, coaches, and dignitaries, Herma's Readers visits schools to inspire young minds through the joy of reading.

Our Impact

Herma’s Readers has made a significant difference by collecting and distributing over 200,000 new and used books. Through a partnership with First Book, the organization has also provided over $150,000 in grants for the purchase of new books for children throughout Virginia.
