About Hendricks Symphonic Society

Founded in the spring of 2007, the Hendricks Symphonic Society emerged from a collaboration of passionate music lovers and conductor Benjamin Del Vecchio. The vision was clear: to make quality orchestral and choral music accessible to the Hendricks County community at an affordable price. The inaugural season featured a remarkable 250 auditioning musicians, leading to the formation of a 75-member orchestra and an 85-member chorus.

Musical Journey and Community Engagement

The first season kicked off with a free introductory concert in October 2007, followed by a series of performances including the beloved 'Messiah' and 'Carmina Burana.' Over the years, the Society has expanded its offerings, now presenting six pairs of concerts annually, along with free chamber concerts that foster community outreach.

Notable performances include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Brahms’ Requiem, and Dvorak’s New World Symphony, showcasing the incredible talent within the community. The Society also hosts summer concerts in local parks and has participated in Fourth of July celebrations, bringing music to the heart of Hendricks County.

Educational Outreach and Scholarships

Education is a cornerstone of the Hendricks Symphony's mission. The Society sponsors a Youth Concerto Competition and provides scholarships to nurture local talent. In-school concerts for the Avon School System have introduced classical music to young audiences, making a lasting impact on the community. Special events, such as featuring a live wolf during a performance of Peter and the Wolf, have captivated audiences and created memorable experiences.
