Our Story
In the Spring of 2016, a compassionate farm helper named Charlie witnessed a heartbreaking scene at an auction. A beautiful pinto horse was being sold for meat and hide, destined for a grim fate. Outraged, Charlie alerted Heather and Scott, who immediately took action to save the horse. They posted the bail for the pinto, who was later named Superman. After receiving the care and training he needed, Superman found a loving forever home in Florida. This pivotal moment sparked the creation of Helping Equines Regain Dignity (HERD).
Since then, HERD has dedicated itself to rescuing, rehabilitating, training, and rehoming approximately 25 to 30 horses each year. With a strong foster program for young equines, HERD ensures that these horses receive the love and care they deserve until they are ready for training. Many of the rescued horses have gone on to capture blue ribbons at horse shows, showcasing their incredible transformations and the dedication of the HERD team.
