Heat Seek
EIN: 47-2309345 · Brooklyn, NY
Our Story
Heat Seek began in February 2014 when William Jeffries, inspired by his own experiences with inadequate heating, developed a temperature sensor to help those in need. After a blog post caught the attention of his classmate Tristan Siegel, the duo monitored their first apartment in the South Bronx, revealing temperatures as low as 53ºF. This initiative quickly gained traction, leading to the incorporation of Heat Seek as a nonprofit in November 2014.
Our Impact
Heat Seek empowers tenants by providing objective evidence for landlord-tenant negotiations and housing court cases. The organization aims to deter heating code violations by ensuring that temperature sensors become a common presence in apartments across New York City.
