Heartland School was established in 1987 by special education directors George Spilker and Dick Schoonover to address the educational needs of students who are emotionally disturbed and behavior disordered. Over the years, the school has evolved, moving to various locations and expanding its services to better support approximately 50 students referred from eastern Nebraska school districts.
