Heart Math Tutoring

Our Story

Heart Math Tutoring (HMT) began in 2010 as a pilot program by dedicated volunteers from Social Venture Partners Charlotte. Recognizing the potential of volunteer tutors to uplift students struggling in math, the initiative gained support from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Communities In Schools. Over three years, the model was refined, providing tutoring to over 200 students. In 2013, HMT became a standalone nonprofit and has since expanded its reach, serving over 930 students across 24 schools with the help of more than 1,100 weekly volunteer tutors.

Impact

To date, 98% of over 3,400 students tutored have shown significant growth in math skills, as evidenced by program pre/post assessments. Additionally, over 90% of teachers report increased confidence and enthusiasm for math among their students, highlighting the transformative effect of HMT's tutoring program.
