Healthy Homes Coalition
EIN: 20-5326650 · Grand Rapids, MI
Our Story
The Healthy Homes Coalition of West Michigan emerged from the successful Get the Lead Out! campaign, established in 2006 to combat childhood lead poisoning in Grand Rapids. This initiative was born from the urgent need to address environmental injustices affecting low-income children of color. Initially focused on lead poisoning, radon, and carbon monoxide, the Coalition has broadened its scope to tackle asthma and other housing-related health issues.
Impact
Through dedicated efforts, the Coalition has reduced childhood lead poisoning in Grand Rapids by over 60%. It continues to provide tailored home assessments and resources for families dealing with asthma, aiming to enhance health outcomes and minimize emergency room visits.
