Our Story
Healthy Cities Tutoring began in 1996 as a vision of school and community leaders dedicated to supporting children and families in San Carlos. Initially piloted at one elementary school in early 1997, the program quickly expanded to assist struggling students across seven schools in the San Carlos School District. In 2014, the program extended its reach to Clifford School in the Redwood City School District, responding to the needs of at-risk students from kindergarten through eighth grade. By 2015, services were further expanded to Connect Community Charter School and Fair Oaks Community School, in collaboration with the Sheriff’s Activity League.
After facing funding challenges in 2011, the community rallied to reestablish Healthy Cities Tutoring as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This commitment ensures that every child receives the support necessary to achieve their full potential, fostering a healthy, safe, and thriving community.
