Education For Girls
Ending Female Genital Mutilation
Community Empowerment

Our Story

The Hawega Foundation was inspired by a traveler named Amy and founded by Sainga Gidobat to empower girls in the Datooga tribe of Tanzania. The foundation focuses on providing education and support to end the harmful practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Initiated by the 'Amy Challenge', it has successfully sponsored multiple girls, aiming to change the narrative around education and FGM.

Impact

Through its efforts, the Hawega Foundation has successfully sponsored numerous girls for education, leading to a significant increase in families choosing to enroll their daughters in school rather than subjecting them to FGM. This shift in community attitudes is a testament to the foundation's impact.
