About Hawaiʻi Peace and Justice
Hawaiʻi Peace and Justice (HPJ) is rooted in the legacy of significant movements such as the anti-war American Friends Service Committee and the Nuclear Free & Independent Pacific Movement. Established on October 1, 2011, HPJ focuses on confronting military expansion and advocating for the restoration of military-occupied lands in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific. The organization recognizes that true freedom is unattainable until these regions are de-occupied and demilitarized.
Impact of Hawaiʻi Peace and Justice
HPJ has played a crucial role in organizing against the RIMPAC military exercises, gathering over 12,000 signatures to urge the State to address the adverse effects of these exercises on local communities and the environment. Additionally, HPJ has formed coalitions to protect Oʻahu’s drinking water from military contamination, advocating for the shutdown of the Red Hill fuel storage facility.
