Our Story
Haven of Peace was founded in 1957 by Ethel Ellison and her husband, Carl, after a poignant encounter at the Stockton Gospel Mission. Ethel realized the urgent need for a shelter dedicated to women and children, as there were no safe havens available for them. With the support of thirteen local churches and a generous businessman, the first homeless shelter for women and children in San Joaquin County was established. After years of growth and community support, the organization moved to its current location in French Camp in 1967, continuing its mission to provide safety and support for those in need.
