Our Story
Founded in 2008, the Hastings Prescott Arts Council (HPAC) emerged from a passionate group of citizens who recognized the vital role of the arts in enriching community life. Over the past decade, HPAC has introduced a variety of events and programs that cater to diverse artists and audiences, fostering a vibrant cultural landscape in Hastings and Prescott.
HPAC played a pivotal role in organizing the River Valley Band, a community concert band that practices weekly and performs throughout the year. The establishment of the Orange Dragon Art Gallery in partnership with the Prescott community has provided a platform for local artists to showcase their work. Additionally, HPAC hosts free arts activities for seniors at the Hastings Senior Center and facilitates a “Little Colony” painters group in Prescott, honoring a historic group of artists from the St. Croix Valley.
Monthly Writers’ Workshops at the LeDuc Historic Estate and music concerts in various venues, including the scenic Rotary Pavilion along the Mississippi River, further enrich the community's artistic offerings. In 2015, HPAC launched the Arts Scholarships for Kids program, providing financial support for children to pursue lessons in art, music, dance, and more.
HPAC has been a steadfast advocate for the arts, initiating discussions with ArtSpace that culminated in the construction of a 37-unit building for artists along the Mississippi River. Each year, the organization honors community members who have made significant contributions to the arts through the Arts Heroes program, celebrated at an annual gala.
In 2022, after navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, HPAC rebranded to strengthen its mission and vision for the future. Collaborating closely with the newly established Arts Commission in Hastings, HPAC continues to support and uplift the artistic community.
