Our Story

In the late 1970s, a coalition of business leaders, faith groups, and social service agencies united to tackle food waste and hunger in Kansas City, leading to the establishment of Harvesters in 1979. From humble beginnings in a donated space, Harvesters quickly grew, distributing 155,000 pounds of food in its first eight months. Over the decades, it has expanded its service area, programs, and partnerships, becoming a vital force in the fight against hunger.

Impact

Harvesters mobilizes the community to ensure equitable access to nutritious food, distributing millions of pounds of food annually to those in need.
