Our Story
Founded in 1897 by Marcellus Hartley to honor his father, Robert Hartley, Hartley House has been a beacon of hope in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen community. Initially established to address the dire needs of a densely populated area, Hartley House has evolved to provide essential services that empower individuals and families. From cooking and sewing classes to hygiene education, the mission has always been to teach and uplift.
Over the years, Hartley House has adapted its programs to meet the contemporary needs of the community, ensuring that every service is personalized and impactful. The small size of the facility allows for flexibility and a deep connection with the residents, fostering a sense of belonging and support.
