Transforming Education at The Harkness House
The Harkness House began with a simple yet powerful idea: education flourishes when students take charge of their own learning. This philosophy, while not new, has often been overlooked in traditional educational settings. The pandemic served as a catalyst for change, prompting three dedicated educators from public middle schools in New Hampshire to rethink the conventional approach to schooling.
In response to the challenges posed by Covid-19, The Harkness House was born, offering a revolutionary educational model that emphasizes small class sizes and student-led learning. Unlike traditional classrooms that can stifle curiosity and creativity, The Harkness House creates an environment where students thrive, engage, and develop their intellectual capacities.
With classes capped at just 12 students, The Harkness House fosters collaboration and autonomy, allowing each student to have a real seat at the table. This innovative approach not only enhances learning outcomes but also empowers students to become leaders in their own educational journeys.
