Our Story

Harbor Health Services has a rich history that spans over five decades, founded by Dr. Jack Geiger and Dr. Count Gibson, who established the first community health centers in the nation. Their vision was to combat poverty and medical disenfranchisement by creating health centers that not only offered essential medical care but also empowered communities through social services and citizen action. Formed as a 501(c)(3) organization in 1985, Harbor Health has evolved to meet the health needs of communities in Boston, the South Shore, and Cape Cod. Today, over 34,000 patients benefit from the comprehensive care provided at Harbor’s five community health centers.

Our Impact

Harbor Health serves more than 34,000 patients annually, offering affordable medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and social support services. Additionally, the organization operates two Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, assisting over 450 frail elders in living independently and with dignity.
