The Happy Brew Café was born from the heartfelt involvement of Southside students in the Missing Voices Project at Flagler College. Listening to families revealed that individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Differences (IDD) have much to teach about love and grace. This café is designed to foster a community where everyone belongs, regardless of ability.

Transforming Lives Through Community

For over 30 years, the Friends Ministry at Southside Methodist has been dedicated to transforming the lives of individuals with IDD, their families, and volunteers. By creating opportunities for belonging and celebrating God-given gifts, this ministry has flourished alongside the Young Life Capernaum Club, which provides a welcoming space for students with IDD as they transition into adulthood.

Addressing Unemployment Among Individuals with IDD

Despite their abilities and eagerness to work, individuals with IDD face an alarming 80% unemployment rate. Happy Brew Café aims to change this narrative by providing job training and employment opportunities in a supportive café environment. Here, young adults with IDD can grow, lead, and work alongside their neurotypical peers, fostering a sense of community and shared hope.
