Our Story

Founded in 1999 by Jim and Kathi Nelson, Hands Across The Water, Inc. began as an adoption education resource organization. As adoptive parents, the Nelsons recognized the need for comprehensive support for families navigating the adoption process. Over the years, HATW has evolved to provide ongoing support, including behavioral health counseling, parent and teen support, and recreational groups. With a commitment to inclusive, strengths-based services, HATW has empowered thousands of children and families both locally and globally.

Impact

In 2021, Hands Across The Water served over 1,200 individuals, offering vital services to youth in foster care, ethical counseling for crisis pregnancies, and sliding-scale mental health support for uninsured clients.
