Our Story
Rice County Habitat for Humanity partners with families who may otherwise be unable to achieve the dream of home ownership. Established in 1991, this organization was born from the inspiration of local church groups and a city program aimed at helping low-income families remodel homes. Since building its first house in 1993 in Northfield, Rice County Habitat has continued to unite volunteers and Partner Families to create simple, decent, and affordable homes.
Impact of Our Work
Housing significantly influences a child's ability to thrive. Studies show that children living in safe, affordable homes are healthier, happier, and perform better academically. In Minnesota, nearly two-thirds of Habitat homeowners with children feel more confident about funding their kids' college education. Furthermore, families without decent housing face greater health risks and have less access to healthcare. Habitat's efforts lead to long-term economic benefits, enabling homeowners to pay bills on time, save money, and invest in education and small businesses.
