Gwendolyn Strong Foundation
EIN: 26-4734446 · Santa Barbara, CA
Our Story
In the heart of Santa Barbara, California, the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation was born from love and resilience. Founded by Victoria and Bill Strong, this nonprofit is dedicated to honoring the legacy of their daughter, Gwendolyn, who was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) at just six months old. Despite the challenges, Gwendolyn thrived, inspiring those around her with her zest for life and determination. Her journey taught us that every child deserves the chance to play, learn, and grow, regardless of their abilities.
Creating Change
After Gwendolyn's passing at the age of seven, her spirit continues to drive the mission of the foundation. The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation is committed to building the first fully inclusive playground in Santa Barbara, ensuring that all children can experience the joy of play together. Additionally, the foundation provides practical support to over 1,000 families worldwide, helping them navigate the overwhelming expenses associated with disabilities.
Impacting Lives
Through advocacy and support, the foundation has played a pivotal role in advancing research and treatment options for SMA. With the introduction of groundbreaking gene therapy and federal legislation that streamlines clinical trials for rare diseases, the foundation is making strides toward a brighter future for families affected by disabilities.
