About Gulf Coast Symphony

Founded in 1995 by Dr. Andrew Kurtz, the Gulf Coast Symphony (GCS) stands as the second-largest non-profit performing arts organization in Lee County, Florida. With a mission to challenge convention, GCS offers a rich tradition of unique collaborations across various genres, high-quality musical performances, and active community engagement. The Symphony aims to use music and the arts as a vehicle to unite and strengthen the community.

Impacting the Community

As one of the cultural jewels of Southwest Florida, GCS comprises the Gulf Coast Symphony, Gulf Coast Chamber Orchestra, Gulf Coast Jazz Collective, and the Music & Arts Community Center (MACC), which opened in January 2021. This year, GCS will present over 100 programs, showcasing the best in classical music, jazz, world music, dance, opera, film, and musical theater. Performances are held at the 1850-seat Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall and the more intimate 300-seat theater at the MACC, along with outreach concerts throughout Southwest Florida.

Commitment to Arts Education

The MACC serves as a creative hub, offering classes in art and music for all ages. Programs like MusicWorks! provide daily after-school string education for grades 1-5, while youth orchestras and jazz programs cater to older students. The New Horizons band invites adults with limited experience to participate in ensemble music-making. GCS is dedicated to equitable access, diversity, and inclusivity in all its activities.
