Our Story

The Gulf Coast Bird Observatory (GCBO) was established in 1993 to combat the alarming decline in bird populations through dedicated avian research and habitat protection. Originating from a collaboration between conservation organizations and industry, GCBO focuses on the vital stopover sites used by migratory songbirds along the Gulf Coast, particularly in Texas and Louisiana.

Our Impact

GCBO has made significant strides in avian conservation, conducting extensive migration studies, enhancing habitats, and acquiring critical land for bird protection. Through a robust Site Partner Network, GCBO engages in research and monitoring initiatives that yield essential data for ongoing conservation efforts.
