Our Story

Founded in 1985 by visionary Ellen Khokha, The Growing Place began with a single classroom dedicated to providing high-quality education for children of full-time working parents. Over the past 27 years, it has expanded to two campuses, achieving accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in 1989. Embracing the Reggio Approach in 1990, staff members traveled to Italy for firsthand experience, enhancing the educational framework. Under the leadership of Pauline McPeake since 2010, The Growing Place has become a recognized leader in early childhood education, operating the Santa Monica Early Childhood Lab School with three campuses that actively engage the community.
