Our Story

Nashville’s greenways initiative began in 1991, when Mayor Phil Bredesen and the Metro Council established the Greenways Commission to develop a network of trails and open spaces throughout Davidson County. In 1994, Greenways for Nashville was founded to empower citizens to support this vital initiative. The mission is clear: to create, preserve, and promote a system of greenways that enhances the natural beauty and recreational opportunities in Nashville.

Impact

Greenways for Nashville has successfully developed nearly 100 miles of trails, protecting over 2,700 acres of floodplain land and adding more than 7,000 acres of park land. This extensive network not only preserves natural habitats but also provides essential recreational spaces for the community.
