Our Story
Founded in 1989 by Elizabeth Gordon Sachs, The Greening of Detroit emerged in response to the devastating loss of trees in the city due to Dutch elm disease and urban expansion. The organization is dedicated to restoring Detroit's tree infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for its residents through community engagement and the creation of green spaces.
Our Impact
Since its inception, The Greening of Detroit has successfully planted over 147,000 trees, significantly contributing to the environmental and economic revitalization of the city.
