Empowering the Randolph Community
Founded in 1983 by visionary local businessmen in Universal City, Greater Randolph Area Service Programs Inc. (GRASP) was established to address the pressing needs of families facing food insecurity, rent, and utility challenges. Over the years, GRASP has forged strong partnerships with organizations such as the United Way of San Antonio & Bexar County, Guadalupe United Way, and various local government entities, enhancing its capacity to serve the community.
In 1987, with grants from the Texas Department of Transportation, GRASP launched its Senior Transportation Program, providing essential rides to medical appointments and shopping. Today, the program boasts a fleet of six handicap-accessible vehicles, ensuring that seniors can access vital services throughout Bexar County.
GRASP's journey has been marked by significant milestones, including the establishment of the GRASP Thrift Store in 1985, which not only generates funding but also offers free shopping vouchers to families in need. The expansion of the store has allowed for a greater inventory, further supporting the community.
In 1990, the generous donation of land by Bobby Huskey led to the construction of the GRASP Senior Center, which now serves as a hub for senior activities, congregate meals, and administrative services. With a dedicated team of 11 employees and over 100 volunteers, GRASP has grown its budget from $200,000 to over $1,300,000, impacting the lives of more than 9,000 individuals annually.
Making a Difference
GRASP is committed to serving over 2,500 families each year in the Randolph area. Each month, the organization distributes over 10,000 pounds of food, ensuring that hunger is addressed in the community. Last year alone, GRASP provided 13,567 congregate meals to seniors and over $100,000 in rental assistance, helping families avoid eviction.
