Our Story

In March 2017, Chief Ranger Matt Vandzura and Mike Scott recognized the pressing issue of food insecurity in Grand Canyon Village. This led to the launch of a Summer Lunch Program in 2017-2018, aimed at supporting students eligible for subsidized lunches. By December 2018, the Grand Canyon Emergency Food Pantry was established to provide essential food during federal appropriations lapses, culminating in the creation of a permanent food pantry in early 2019.

Our Impact

Since its inception, the Grand Canyon Food Pantry has distributed over 29,000 pounds of food during critical times, including the federal government shutdown, and has provided free lunches to local children. The organization has been recognized with the Regional Summer Sunshine Award for its dedication to serving rural and underserved communities.
