Our Story
Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas has a rich history dating back to 1894, beginning as the Helping Hand Institute in Kansas City. This organization provided food, shelter, and work relief for the homeless. In 1902, Rev. Edgar J. Helms founded Goodwill Industries in Boston, focusing on training and hiring people with disabilities. The two organizations merged in 1978, evolving into the current Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas, which aims to empower individuals facing barriers to employment through various programs and services.

Goodwill serves approximately 3,500 individuals annually, providing them with the resources and support needed to achieve gainful employment and economic stability.
